I'm susan ireland, author of the complete idiot's guide to the perfect resume. What telephone number do you have listed in the heading of your resume? Thats the number where a potential employer is likely to call you to schedule and interview. so if you are prepared to answer the phone anytime and have it be that potential employer, thats a great number to list on your resume. Because, think about it when the employer calls, instead of getting a voicemail. There's a very good chance you'll pick up the phone directly and perhaps get a jump on that job interview. Now remember if this is too much pressure for you that you have to answer the phone in a way thats appropriate for a potential employer to hear, then maybe you would rather have the number of a voicemail system so that you can always have a little screening, and so the first impression that the employer gets is that you are prepared. So cell phone versus answering machine, its your choice but make it conscious. And if you decide to use your cell phone, then please answer your cell phone appropriately every single time you answer the phone until you land that next job. i'm susan ireland at susanireland.com
