Mark Chipello is the drummer for the singer Tyrone Wells. He gives TVLesson a quick lesson on how to play drums. An important fact you should note on playing drums is that the whole purpose of a drummer is to keep rhythm. It doesnt matter how good you are at fills or on how amazing your beats are. As long as you keep a consistent rhythm you are a great drummer.

So the next thing Im going to talk about is some basic exercises that can help build up muscle memory to play a drum set. So the first thing we have is called 8 on a hand. And were just playing 8th notes at an even tempo and were going to try to play with even intensity. So try to work on a smooth consistent sound and tempo. And if you notice, we see rebound Im driving the stick into the head and then Im letting it come back on its own so its relax its fluid and Im not using my arm its not stiff.. Its a wrist motion from this exercise. Its a wrist exercise. Thats what the drum is all about. You use mostly your wrists. Thats the first exercise. Another thing Im going to show you a double stroke roll. Its going to be two strokes on each hand. So key again is consistent timing and relaxed. Timing will come with practice. Thats the double stroke drum roll. It all starts off here with consistent timing.
