There are many ways to get inspired to write a song.

Some ways I find inspiration is through a conversation, usually something someone said that really got to me or movies, novels and even poetry.

To get an idea for the song melody, just start playing chords and hum along! You'd be surprised on what you can find.

I use some tools to help me write songs. I use a rhyming dictionary, a thesaurus, and a dictionary (you don't want to use words incorrectly!). Another tool I'm quite fond of is the capo. I'm not a very strong guitar player so by using the capo, I can raise the chords higher and change the sound of the guitar.

Step 1: Try to come up with a melody.

Step 2: Try fit melody with words (lyrics)

Step 3: Play around with the key

Step 4: Come up with verses to surround the chorus; verse is there to support the chorus.

Step 5: Although a bridge is not required in every song, it is nice to come up with the bridge to heighten the music.

Step 6: There are many different ways to come up with a song. I usually use these structures in my song: Verse-Chorus-Verse-Chorus-Bridge.

How to Read Guitar Tabs

By: Musicalchairs89
Playing the guitar becomes so much easier if you are able to read guitar tabs. Guitar tabs are an easy way of organizing guitar music and should be learned how to be read by everyone who plays guitar. Learn how to read guitar tabs with this video and start playing songs.

Transcription
Hi my name is Peter Vogell and this is a lesson on how to read the basic of tabuture. Tune your guitar and lets get started. So in example number 1 we have a blank tab in treble clef. The tab is the bottom set of six lines. The lowest line is the 6th string. The lowest in pitch the lowest string. The one up is 5th, then 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st. The highest line of the tab clef is going to be the first string, the lowest is the 6th string. In example number 2, we have a zero written on the 6th string. That simply means play an open 6th string. In example number 3 we have a 0 on the 6th string 5th string 4th 3rd 2nd and first. So the number placed on the string on what fret to play. In this case its telling us to play opened because theres a 0 no fingers no frets to play. In example number 4, there is a 1 and it is placed on the 6th string. So my first finger is playing the first fret 6th string. This example doesn't tell us what finger we use so we can use whatever finger we want in this case. Then it has a 2 and it is on the 6th string as well so its a second fret 6th string. The three means third fret sixth string and 4 means 4th fret sixth string. All we're worried about is the tab were not worried about the treble clef up above that has the notes. Don't even concern yourself with that right now. Just worry about where to play these things. The fifth example has a one on the 5th string. That means put any finger you'd like on the first fret 5th string. The 2 means second fret, 3rd fret, 4th fret, all were doing here all the numbers on here are telling us what fret to play. In example number 6 you see we have a 2 on the 6th string and then a 2 on the 5th a two on the 4th a 2 on the 3rd a two on the 2nd and a 2 on the first. So once again the numbers on the the string are telling us what fret to play and this example is showing you can play anywhere on the string. You should be able to see how this all works now. In the last example I actually have a melody written out for you. This is a great way to see if you can really read tabuture. I give this to all of my students. It sounds like this. You probably recognize this. Its a riff from a very famous song. So the two zeros on the front end mean opened 6th string then the 4 means fourth fret 6th string the 2 is on the 5th string so second fret 5th string, the next 0 is on the fourth string then we go fourth fret 4th string, second fret fourth string opened fourth string. I just play it a couple of times in a row, thats how it would sound. Tabuture can tell you exactly where to play. My name is Peter Vogell and I will see you again soon.
