Apple pies are not only great to make and serve during the holiday season they are also perfect for an ordinary day afternoon snack or dessert. It can be an amazing comfort food, and is also quite easy to make. Here's a recipe for a fool-proof apple pie that;s sure to have your loved ones asking for more. You'll need 6 tart green apples, cup of sugar, teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 3 tablespoons flour, 2 tablespoons butter, 2 pie crust shells, a pinch of nutmeg, aluminium foil and pie pan.
1. Have the oven pre-heated to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the skin from the apples, cut them into quarters and shave the core off. After this, cut the apples according to preference on how thick/then you want them to be.
2. Place the bottom layer of the pie crust shell into a pie pan (preferable a deep dish one).
3. Fill the crust with the prepared slices of apple.
4. Distribute the sugar evenly on top of the slices of apples.
5. Distribute the cinnamon on top of the apples, and remember not to mix or stir anything.
6. Distribute layer of nutmeg on top of the apples and cinnamon.
7. Put on an even layer of flour on top of the previous layers/mixture.
8. Distribute the vanilla extract evenly on top of the previous layer, then cut the butter into small pieces and evenly place them on top afterwards.
9. Put the top pastry crust on top of the mixture, and then pinch the edges to seal the top and bottom crusts. Prick holes on the top crust using a fork for the steam to come out of.
10. Cover the pie edges with aluminium foil and bake for about 1 hour at 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
11. After about 20 minutes of baking, remove the foil to prevent the edges from darkening.
