How to Shuffle Poker Chips Like a Pro |
|
By:
PokerPro
Ever wonder how the professionals shuffle poker chips? Do you watch them on TV and stare in amazement as they combine stacks of chips so effortlessly and with amazing precision? You can learn to do this to with the help of this video.
Transcription
Tip #1: Start with six chips. It’s the easiest starting point. Tip #2 Note the finger placement. Cut the chips in to two equal stacks. Hold them stable with your thumb and index finger on one side and your ring and pinky finger on the other side. Place your middle finger in between the two stacks as seen here. it will be used to lift the two stacks in the center. Tip #3: The key is to hold them tightly together on the sides while lifting both stacks up in the center with your middle finger. Now take a look from in front. Lift them up and guide the chips together with your middle finger while applying pressure on the sides with the rest of your fingers. Tip #4: Have patience. it seems hard at first but eventually it will “click” and the chips will start to fall in to place. After you start to get it with six chips, start practicing with eight. Then ten chips. Then twenty chips. Ok, so twenty chips is fairly difficult, but you will get it eventually. Once the chips do start to fall in to place for you there is another gimmick you can do to practice. Grab a stack that is half one color chip and half another color chip. Tip #5: When you can nail the shuffle of a two colored stack consecutively, like a poker pro, you can take the color on top and put it on the bottom. Now remember green was the color on top. Now blue is. If you continue on you can then of course return the original color back to it’s rightful spot. You need to hit the shuffle perfectly every time to get the colors to switch place. Once you start getting it down this is a good way to hone your skills. You have everything you need now. Time to get practicing. Good luck! |

Water Balloon Part 7 |
|
By:
TVScience
This was a final attempt for my students to get a higher launch angle. Two guys stood on chairs and were braced by several students each. The launcher got as low to the ground as he could. However, the results were inconclusive because the balloon was our last one and it broke in the launcher.
This is a lab that my physics students (all seniors) do to calculate the angle of launch of a projectile. Teaching and doing science can be a lot of fun.
If you measure the time that it takes the balloon to travel and the distance it travelled horizontally you can calculate the horizontal speed (s=d/t). Assuming that air resistance is negligible and that the balloon reached the peak of its trajecory at the half-way point (in time) then the maximum height can be calculated using the free-fall formula (d=1/2*g*t^2). From there the average vertical speed can be calculated (s=d/t, using 1/2 of the total time). At this point trigonometry can be used to calculate the angle of launch (and Pythagorean\'s theorem can be used to calculate the average resultant speed). |

Shoot The Monkey 01 |
|
By:
TVScience
This is a classic physics demonstration. The problem varies, but the basics are: a hunter aims straight at a monkey (ignoring the trajectory [caused by gravity]) and would miss, but the monkey sees the hunter and lets go of the tree the instant the projectile (dart, bullet, etc.) leaves the weapon. Because of the basic laws of physics (that gravity pulls all objects down at the same rate and that the horizontal and vertical componets of motion are independant) the monkey gets hit everytime. This demo uses a blow gun, a tin can as a monkey, and an electromagnetic circuit with a kill switch to release the monkey.
No monkeys were harmed in the making of this video. |

Water Balloon Launcher Part 1 |

This is one of the better water balloon launcher videos. If you watch close (right at the start of the 26th second) you can see the water balloon (blue) as it comes out of the launcher.

Water Balloon Launcher Part 2 |

This is the best of the Water Balloon Launcher Lab videos. Using the original video and watching it in slow motion I was able to see the balloon after the launch in the air down the road (I\'ve not been able to see it on YouTube, but if it is there it is around the 19th second, just after the bright flash and would be on the left side of the screen before the camera gets centered looking down the road).

This video isn\'t great it shows one failed launch (the balloon bursted in the launcher) and the battery on my camera died right before the second launcher was fired. I keep the video for my students to enjoy.
