Irene During summer time, a lot of people suffer from some type of heat stroke – either the minor symptoms or the more life-threatening ones. Whatever the case, you should know how to help someone who suffers heat stroke symptoms – you might be saving his life. Call 911 if the victim exhibits any of the following symptoms: temperature of 104 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, strange of disoriented behaviour, absence of sweating, rapid breathing and heartbeat, seizures or coma.
Step 1: Remove the victim out of the heat immediately. Get him as quick as possible to an air-conditioned room, or to at least a shaded area. Step 2: If you can, ask someone else to call 911 as you start on cooling the victim. Step 3: Remove the victim’s clothing and have him sit or lie down. Step 4: Apply cool water to the victim’s body or drape a cool, wet sheet over him. If you are near a bathtub, fill it with cool water and lay the victim in it. Step 5: Manually fan the victim; if there is an electric fan nearby, direct it to the victim’s wet skin. Step 6: Place ice packs wrapped in towels on the victim’s armpits and in between his thighs.
