Instructions
Things you will need:
- Cooperation
- Loving hearts
- Heart shaped cookie cutter
- Construction paper
- Fondue pot
- Valentine movie
Step1
Decorate the kitchen or dining room table with colorful red, pink and white cut out hearts. You can purchase these at a party store or have the kids cut them out of construction paper.
Step2
Make heart shaped pancakes, served with fresh strawberries and strawberry flavored milk. Lots of pink goin’ on here. You can use a heart shaped cookie cutter with a clothespin attached to one side to make the pancakes, just remember to spray the inside of the cookie cutter for easy removal of the pancake.
Step3
Go around the table and share your heart. Tell other family members how they are special to you and why you are grateful to have them in your life. Come on, you can think of at least one nice thing to say!
Step4
After cleaning up the kitchen together, go for a morning hike. Choose a local spot that you haven’t explored yet as a family. You’ll burn breakfast calories and take in the beautiful gifts nature has to offer.
Step5
When you return home, have the kids choose a board game for the whole family to play, this may take some cooperation, but it’s a great skill for every member of the family to practice.
Step6
After the game, serve lunch picnic-style in the backyard; don’t forget the pink lemonade. The evening before, pre-make heart shaped sandwiches or cheese and lunchmeat cut into heart shapes and serve with crackers. You can use the same cookie cutter you used to make the pancakes. Just place the cutter in the middle of the sandwich and push.
Step7
After lunch set up clues around the house and have the kids find them together, ultimately leading to a Valentine treat for each of them. For example, leave clue #1 taped on the T.V., leading them to clue #2 taped on the bathroom mirror, etc. You could surprise them with chocolate filled red heart’s, Rice Krispie’s cut into hearts or a book or movie you know they’ll enjoy.
Step8
After sugary treats it’s essential to burn off some of that energy. Set up a game of soccer or baseball in the yard and have a ball! The kids will love having you play with them and it increases family love and unity.
Step9
Dinner time is just around the corner and what could be more fun than fondue. If you don’t own a pot, borrow one from a neighbor. You can start out dipping bread into a basic cheese fondue. For the second course, dip thinly shredded chicken or beef and veggies into a bubbling broth. We can’t forget dessert! Rinse out the fondue pot, melt some chocolate and dip some marshmallows, strawberries, bananas and pretzels in. Yummy!
Step10
While dipping dessert, go around the table and have everyone share what their favorite part of the day was. You may be surprised. The kids may choose spending time with you, over the sugary treats!
Step11
A perfect ending to a fun-filled, busy Valentine’s Day is to change into your PJ’s and pop in a Valentine movie. Finding a movie everyone will enjoy could be tricky. Here are a few suggestions; Under the Sea- Little Mermaid, The Princess Diaries, Cheaper by the Dozen-Part 2, Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown, Shrek and Hairspray.
