'Tis the season and the time to wear Christmas sweaters is drawing near! This time, instead of purchasing a sweater, create one for yourself!
Things you will need:
Various colors of felt
A hot glue gun
First, buy a sweater. You'll probably want it to be festive, so stick with red or green. Head over to a local Goodwill or thrift store to find a cheap sweater. Preferably you'll want it to be quite a bit larger than you.
Before purchasing the felt, decide what shapes you'll be doing. Most commonly Santa, reindeer, Christmas trees and ornaments would probably be most popular. Buy colors according to your design ideas.
Do the same for the pipe cleaners, ribbon, pom poms and puffy paint. Use festive colors as inspiration, as well as your designs.
Sketch your initial idea. Don't go into this blind. Know where you want to head when you start this.
Create stencils for your cut out shapes. Either draw on a piece of paper and cut according to each detail. If you're not quite the artistic type, use holiday cookie cutters to get the basic shapes.
Once you've cut out the shapes, it's time to glue them all together. Keep the item 3D. The cheesier the better. Add glitter, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, pom poms, and any other bells and whistles you choose. Let the felt dry.
Once the individual pieces have come together, glue them onto the sweater. Let that dry too.
Decorate the other parts of the sweater with puffy glue, ribbon and bells. And voila! You have a beautiful ugly Christmas sweater!
Tips & Warnings
Adding googly eyes to reindeer or Santa add an extra class of cheese.
If you're creating a scene, think about using silhouettes and surrounding nature.
