It's always hard to wake up and get going when the alarm goes off in the morning, even after a full night's sleep. Here are a few ways to kick your morning off with a bang.
Things you will need:
A healthy breakfast
An alarm clock
If you know yourself well enough to determine that when your alarm goes off, you'll end up sleeping for an extra half hour, try setting it about 15 minutes earlier than usual so that you'll only wake up 15 minutes later than you should.
Turning on the lights when you\'re used to the dark usually hurts your eyes and can give you a headache. If your light is by your bed, put your head face down in your pillow and reach to turn on the light, then lift your head up and allow your eyes to slowly adjust. If it\'s far away, simply look away when you turn on the light.
As you climb (or drag yourself) out of bed, remember that today is a new day with a whole new batch of opportunities. Starting out with positive thinking will help you begin to feel rejuvenated, even if it doesn't feel that way so early in the morning.
Take a cool shower, even if you just jump in and out. Taking a warm shower will make you feel sleepy, so adjust the temperature so that it is lukewarm. This will keep you on your toes without being uncomfortably cold. If you don\'t have time for a shower, splash your face with cold water.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day so whatever you do, DON'T SKIP IT! Make sure it is a healthy, well balanced breakfast as well. Having sugary cereal or a slice of toast won't cut it. If you need something fast, have cereal such as Special K or Kashi with sliced fruit and milk. If you have a little more time available, try something like egg whites on whole wheat toast and a banana (or any fruit of your choice) on the side. If you have orange juice, there should be enough sugar in that to satisfy your glucose cravings.
Studies have shown that a cup of coffee is a great way to give you lasting energy throughout the day. Having too much or drinking a sugary coffee will make you crash. Instead, enjoy a nice cup of coffee with your breakfast or while you are getting ready.
If you have time, incorporate some type of exercise into your morning routine. Try a yoga salutation or a quick run around the block. Getting your blood pumping is the best and healthiest way to start your morning off.
